The Vernon Monument Project, founded in 2008, is the campaign charity committed to designing, constructing and installing a monument in the centre of Vernon Basin in Gunwharf Quays. The site previously occupied by HMS Vernon, in Portsmouth, Hampshire, was home to a range of specialist warfare organisations, both Naval and Military, over several centuries. The world of underwater warfare was the focus of many people who worked, trained and were based in this site. This dangerous work continues daily as could be seen with the discovery, whilst dredging by The Hard, in Portsmouth on the evening of 29th September this year, of a 500Kg bomb which was removed and rendered safe by our local Royal Navy bomb disposal unit. Well done Team.
We need your help so we can achieve our goal of installing the monument in the next couple of years. We are getting closer but all help would be gratefully received.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
David Sandiford, Trustee and Treasurer.
