About us

The Vernon Monument Project, founded in 2008, is the campaign charity that installed and unveiled The Vernon Mine Warfare and Diving Monument on 17 March 2020 in the centre of Gunwharf Quays.

The unveiling of the monument was  a moving affair, brought forward because of the deadly coronavirus. We also held a hugely successful dedication ceremony on 15 July 2022 with an attendance of over 850 supporters. The event was supported by retired and serving members of the Mine Warfare and Diving branches amongst many others who have past connection with HMS VERNON.

With your help we have now installed and dedicated the monument but must continue with our fundraising efforts to pay for future contingencies, improvements, maintenace and repairs.

These improvements include making a visit to the statue by the visually impaired more meaningful by the installation, in the Old Customs House, of a smaller scale copy of the monument for a hands-on experience! We hope to complete this later this year 2023.

Thank you all for your continued support and good luck!

Yours Sincerely,

David Sandiford, Trustee, Project Manager and Treasurer.
