About our cause

Portsmouth Cricket Club provides a much loved and valued service for the community.

Portsmouth Cricket Club provides a safe environment for the sport of cricket in the local area. We provide opportunities for gifted cricketers to progress through the age groups up to first team level and beyond (and to represent both District and County), while also being a place where keen but less talented cricketers of all ages can enjoy their sport.

We take seriously the welfare of young club members. We implement the aims and objectives of the ECB Cricket Equity Policy and the Welfare of Young People in Cricket.

We ensure that every member of the club respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person within the context of Cricket. The Club treats everyone equally and does not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.

We do not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of discrimination. We display high standards of behaviour and promote the positive aspects of Cricket e.g. fair play. We encourage all participants to learn the Laws and rules and play within them, respecting the decisions of match officials. We respect children’s opinions when making decisions about their participation in Cricket.

The Club participates in the Chance to Shine Programme and several of its coach’s actively engage with local schools to coach cricket in school time.

Enhanced facilities will enable this outreach programme to expand and enable the Club to attract more of the community to its ground.

We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!

The pavilion was built in 1972. A modernised facility with adequate lighting, proper flooring, showers and upgraded changing rooms, male, female and disabled toilets/showers, would improve the club for the community, the players and the members.

The Executive Committee has canvassed the members and the local community and it is believed that the community and the Club will benefit from a modernised facility.

The Club is part of the Southern Gas Premier League and the 1 X1 team were promoted in 2010 and 2013.

Portsmouth Cricket Club boasts a community membership of 300+ people. We hold a senior playing membership of about 60 players plus an ever-growing colts playing membership currently at 110 youngsters and rising. We run teams from U9s through to U16s and have girls participating in all age groups.

Many of our colts participate at District and County level.

The club is run by volunteers and rely solely upon our membership fees, donations and sponsorship. The Club has achieved CLUBMARK accreditation which demonstrates that Portsmouth Cricket Club provides a safe environment for children to learn, play and enjoy cricket.

The Cricket Pavilion has been at St Helen's Playing Fields since 1972 although we as a voluntary club took over the responsibility of the club from Portsmouth City Council in 2011 on a lease for 25 years.

We believe that with updated facilities more members will join the club and the wider community will benefit.

The enhanced facilities will create a better sporting experience for existing members and users, and a more welcoming environment for new ones. The modernisation will be key, as the club enjoys more and more League success that puts more strain on facilities with increased use.

Fully accessible modernised changing rooms and other improvements will make it easy for everyone in our community to take part in sport and social activities.

Thank you for your support and good luck!

Yours Sincerely,

Mr Alan Walton
